  The city of San Diego is incredibly close to the United States border with Mexico. As such, San Diego features many Mexican restaurants so its denizens and tourists can indulge in such Mexican food staples as tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas and chimichangas. • Located in the Mission Hills area of San Diego, Lucha Libre Gourmet Taco Shop carries the theme of Mexican professional wrestling (lucha libre), with walls decorated with masks and photos of Mexican wrestlers, lucha libre movies playing on the TV and even select menu items named after wrestling like the Tap Out taco and the DDT Loaded Baked Potato. The restaurant offers affordable burritos, tacos and quesadillas as well as a special table called the Champion's Booth with golden plates, special table service and velvet rope that anyone can eat at, provided they reserve the booth 24 hours in advance.

El Indio Mexican Restaurant

• Also located in Mission Hills, El Indio has been around since 1940 and has even been featured on the Food Network TV program "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." It is best known for it small rolled tacos, called taquitos. The restaurant features a variety of options on their menu including tacos, burritos nachos, enchiladas and breakfast plates. Additionally, El Indio offers vegetarian options and even catering.

Alambres Mexican Grill

• Alambres is located in the tourist-friendly Gaslamp section of downtown San Diego. Alambres offers such specialties as grilled filets, enchiladas and a rolled, grilled cheese dish called chicharón de queso. The restaurant aims for the feel of a cafe in Mexico City, and is open until 3 a.m.

• Located in the Hillcrest area, Baja Betty's offers a variety of combination plates, margaritas and the option to build your own burrito.
