Why Should We Believe in God?
Questions without answers For most people Christians and none Christians alike there comes a time in our lives that we ask ourselves the question why we should believe in God.
What follows next is who is God? Why do some people believe in a God they have never seen and want others to? What is the purpose of faith? Does this really have any effect in our lives? Can faith make a difference? If I live without faith in God am I going to hell? I have no faith in God and I am still alive and well, what difference does it make having faith in God? There is one common theme behind all these questions and that is: why should we believe in God when we have never seen him? Questions with wrong answers Before answering this question we must first answer other questions.
Why do we believe in friends, family, husbands, wives, children, strangers, doctors, politicians for that matter? We see them every day yet time and again they lie to us? It makes no sense that we can believe in these people and every so often without fail they let us down.
As ingenious a race as human beings can be compared to any other living thing in our world we are all willing to accept the word of mouth that our family, friends, doctors, etc are who they say they are yet ever so often they are wrong about one thing or the other.
In the end we accept their excuses and say that they are human.
To strengthen our faith in this people we look at ourselves and say we also make mistakes so no one is perfect.
It makes logically sense for beings as clever as ourselves to choose not to believe in other human beings because we all tell lies in one form or another, cheat and let each other down.
However we choose to overlook this and recognize our strengths and weaknesses in each other.
This comforts us in believing that we are no better so we should trust each other.
This is a very strong case for not believing in God except there is another side to us which is unpleasant and that is we kill each other.
We take from each other and are willing to go to lengths to make each other suffer.
Unfortunately there is no balance for the good and bad in us.
What arises next is why we should have leaders and subjects if we are all equals? Why we should follow any kind of pattern in society if we all lie, cheat and steal from one another? Everyone should be solely responsible for themselves and at least this way we can all get what we want.
Unfortunately without leadership and direction there would be chaos in our society.
The fact remains that left to our own devices none of us would be alive on this earth.
We would take from each other and kill one another to ensure that we survive.
The search for the right answers None of us may have seen God, none of us may know who God is, none of us may even have read scripture for that matter yet another part of us is always seeking for shelter elsewhere from our own people who we know beyond a shadow of doubt would let us down.
The point here is whether we choose to believe in God or not, we all believe in something that isn't human.
Whether we choose to believe, in our jobs, our cars, an animal, the sun or the moon, there is something that we believe in that isn't human.
If we have come this far in recognizing that we can believe in anything other than ourselves then we can start making a case for believing in God.
Choosing to believe in anything other than ourselves means we are finally looking outside the box.
The question now is what ever we choose to believe in has to also reward us in one form or the other.
It has to be invincible, smarter than us and cannot be our creation because we could easily destroy it.
There is nothing that the human can see in this world today that is smarter than us.
A computer isn't, we built it.
The sun, moon, earth and other stars of the galaxy aren't either for as we know they are cosmic entities which with our advances in science today, we know serve a particular function.
The further we look into the things that we can see we turn to realize that nothing surpasses our intelligence.
The next step is to look into things that we cannot see.
Different types of answers One thing does exist that we know off that we can't see and it is the spirit.
Whether we choose to accept this or not we know it exist as we know numbers exist, love exists and hatred and jealousy exist.
We cannot see these things but we believe in them.
We accept beyond doubt that these things are a part of us.
However these things always fall into two categories, the positive things and the negative things as defined by us.
Regardless of whether we wish this or not these categories where made by us for us and so we know they exists.
The last step is to find out who is all of these things that we believe in.
It is not the sun because we know for certain that we receive no love from the sun.
We can spend a decade asking the sun for money or a wonderful life but without going to work we would get nothing.
The same applies to all the things we can see.
Nothing comes from them because they are objects.
However something always comes from us when we give love, anger and hatred.
There is a reaction, a change in things around us.
The fact is the invisible things give back visible things.
The question is if we put all these invisible things together what do we get? Discovering God in our answers The combination of all these invisible things together is called God.
God is a spirit and he is in everything we do or think of doing.
He exists in good and in evil because he created both and they serve him in different ways.
If we have concluded that we all believe in the invisible things then we must all conclude that we believe in God.
The fact is we all believe in God in one way or another whether we confess his name or not.
The difference between Christians and none believers is the choice we make when we come to God.
If we are agreed that we all believe in God then we must learn to abide by his rules.
