What is Mechanical Engineering?
It is the sect of the engineering which is involved with the design and the manufacture of various kinds of machines. It is one of the major sectors of engineering which is closest to the manufacturing processes and to our day to day life since almost all the items we consume are designed or manufactured by using a machine. There are several sub sects involved with the aerospace, chemicals, computers, communication and power generation. It's not a subject that is limited to the engineering students only. It's studied by the students who are involved with the medicine, dentistry, agriculture...etc since they also have to handle machinery related to their careers.
What do they do?
They're involved in a range of research, manufacturing and business development activities. They are contributing to the work force as lecturers in graduate high schools and the universities, as designers, supervisors and entrepreneurs in manufacturing firms and as research personals in the laboratories.
Some of them are lecturing and demonstrating at the military schools while some of the others are placed in the military establishments to handle engineering courses to military students and to deal with issues related to weaponry and war crafts.
The career development and promotion has several stages. At the very beginning of their work they are mostly involved with the technical side of the subject where they are mostly placed at the factories of the manufacturing firms. Mechanical engineers are mostly involved with the project management, marketing and several other management type jobs at the latter stage of their career according to their seniority.
What is the Scope of a Mechanical Engineer?
They have to undergo several activities in their manufacturing firms. Initially they are involved with the research and the conceptual design in the manufacturing process. They have to analyze data obtained from ongoing production status. Continuous research and data analysis of the performance of the existing machines and the mini models will be able to design and develop more versatile and efficient models of the machines. The machines manufactured should be undergone continuous testing before releasing them to the market. Further mechanical engineers are involved in the presentation of the work done by them. Moreover they are serving as good entrepreneurs for the industries. When the several models of the machine are designed they should be introduced to the consumers. Therefore a mechanical engineer should be a good manager, marketer and a customer care officer.
