We The People

The people that govern a society are not above the society that they govern and must adhere to the same laws that they create to govern that society. For years our elected officials have been granted clemency for disgusting acts of immorality, everything from sexual harassment and infidelity to embezzlement and drug abuse if you can name it there is a strong possibility that some official has done it. "We The People" would find ourselves under the jail for committing a fraction of these criminal acts, but our elected officials always seem to find a way to get off free.

Why are we not holding these individuals accountable for their actions? What make certain individuals feel as if they are above society's rules? America, keep in mind that the government works for the people, and it was "We The People" that started our government and not vice-versa. Every dime that is spent towards lavish vacations, escort services, pensions, raises, bonuses and pay-offs are our dimes. We all know that it takes a lot of money to govern, but it does not take immoral behavior, wasteful tactics or deceptive practices to do so.

We are a country that has been blessed with the opportunity to elect our governing body, at pretty much all levels. We have also been blessed with the rights to question our elected leaders and to hold them accountable for their actions, but it seems as though we have been reluctant to do so.

America, it is time that "We The People" demand more from our elected officials, both locally and nationally. We must demand more than just false promises and smiles, more than pacifying rhetoric and more than arrogant behavior.  Accountability; that is what we must demand of the people that govern us, holding these individuals accountable is the first step in strengthening American government and America as a whole.
