How to Calculate Calorie Loss
- 1). Step on an accurate scale and find your weight. Your current weight, height and age will affect how many calories you burn during a specific activity or workout.
- 2). Purchase an attachable calorie loss calculator at a health, fitness or sporting goods store for the most accurate count. These calculators come in the form of rings, watches and other wearable devices. Expect to pay $50 to $100.
- 3). Enter your weight, height, age and any other information the device asks for. Wear the device while walking, biking, sprinting, lifting weights or any other activity. The device will automatically calculate calorie loss.
- 1). Engage in an activity of your choice. Record the total minutes or hours you perform the activity and the speed or intensity with which you performed it.
- 2). Visit an online calorie calculator and enter in your age, height, weight and any other information required. Check the type of activity you were engaged in.
- 3). Click "calculate." An estimated number of calories will be presented based on the information you provided. Know that this number will not be exact.
- 4). Figure out the number of calories you burn in a day without exercising by using the equation for an individual's basal metabolic rate (BMR). For women, use BMR = 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years). For men, use 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in year).
- 5). Add your BMR to your calories burned while working out. This is how many calories you burned totally in one day. Keep track of the calories you consume in one day. Subtract calories expended from calories consumed.
