Many colleges and universities in the United States offer a mass communications program. The major is usually geared toward students who wish to pursue careers in television, print or radio media and is usually part of a college's Department of Communications. The University of Pennsylvania, Syracuse University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill house three of the best communications departments in the country. - Collegecrunch.org ranks the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg School of Communications the top communications college in the United States as of 2009, and zencollegelife.com ranks it second for communications colleges. Founded in 1959, the Annenberg School offers just one undergraduate major--communications--but with several different concentrations, including health and political communication and research on children, family and media, according to the school's website. Students within the communications program can also participate in internships, independent studies and study abroad programs.
