Rome has a lot to offer the discerning visitor, whether you are looking for archaeological sites, great shopping boutiques, fantastic dining, or a romantic journey with your significant other.
There are also some amazing Rome hotels to choose from, although narrowing down your choices might prove to be difficult.
When planning your trip to the "eternal city", what should you be looking for in Rome hotels? When comparing Rome hotels, the first thing that you want to consider is location.
What you plan on doing during your trip will probably factor into your ideal location.
If you want to see the major sites, like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Roman Forum, and Coliseum then you should try to stay in the historical center which will put you close to these attractions.
After all, you don't want to have to trek an hour into town everyday to wander around.
Although most Rome hotels located outside of the center tend to be a little more economically priced, they can also be inconvenient if you are planning on doing most of your exploring within the center.
You should also take transportation costs into consideration, too.
If you're going to pay a lot for mass transport or taxis back into town, then you're not really saving money.
There are a variety of budget Rome hotels located near the main train terminal.
Although it is usually advised against staying so close to the station due to safety reasons, getting a block or two away can give you great prices and put you at a safer distance.
Although some of these hotels will be very basic in design and might lack luxury features or amenities, they will be within walking distance of many of the city's great sites and be easy on your wallet, too.
If you are traveling to Rome on a romantic adventure, then you might want to consider the Centro Storico on the Campo Marzo.
This is a central location with a variety of piazzas, fountains, cafes, bars, and medieval streets.
If price is not of concern to you, then you can find many hotels that are 4 and even 5 stars near the Spanish Steps.
Of course, you will be paying a lot more money for these, but you will also be staying in style.
You can expect luxury linens, wonderful service, and fine dining experiences at these establishments.
For the more budget conscious traveler, there are also hostels and convents available for those that are having trouble finding Rome hotels in their price range.
The city has a variety of these and many of them are located in central locations that are just as convenient as some of the pricier hotels.
