How to Play the Foxtrot Card Game
- 1). Find a few friends to play the Foxtrot Card Game against. The Foxtrot Card Game can be played with as few players as two, but with no more players than six. The ideal number of players for the Foxtrot Card Game is between three and four players.
- 2). Deal eight cards to each player and set the remaining cards aside, after flipping the top card face up from the deck. Let each player know that those cards will be used in a future hand of the Foxtrot Card Game.
- 3). Explain to each player that the goal is to capture certain scoring cards by winning tricks. The scoring is explained in the "Scoring Foxtrot" section below. A trick is won by either playing a card that matches the rank of the face up card played before it, or by playing a Jack onto the face up pile of cards.
- 4). Choose the player to the left of the dealer to start the game. He may play any card he wishes. To win a Foxtrot in the Foxtrot Card Game, a player must win the pile when there is only one card in the pile. When a player wins a Foxtrot, he or she keeps that pair in front of him or her face up. Any other cards won during the game are stored face down in front of the player that won the trick. A player is not required to win a trick on his turn, but must play a card from his hand.
- 5). Continue playing around the table in a clockwise rotation until each player has played all the cards from her hand. Players continue to collect Foxtrots and other cards as explained in step four. If the round ends with the last player failing to win a trick on his last play, the last person that won a trick receives those cards that are face up in the play pile.
- 6). Deal another eight cards to each player from the stock pile of cards that were not used in the previous round. Make sure there is at least one card left to flip over to start the round. If there are not enough cards for eight per player, deal an equal number of cards to each player. There will be several cards left over, and these are won by the player that wins the last trick in the Foxtrot Card Game.
- 1). Record 10 points for each player and for each Foxtrot that has been won. The cards must be faced up. If any of the Foxtrots consist of a pair of Jacks, that player receives 20 points for the Foxtrot instead of 10 points.
- 2). Award 10 points, for each 10, that a player has in his pile of face down cards. Also, award one point for each Ace and each Jack in that pile, for each individual player.
- 3). Count the number of cards each player has won. This includes the cards in the face down trick pile as well as the Foxtrots. The player with the most cards wins 10 points.
- 4). Deduct 20 points from the score of whichever player has the Queen of spades.
