Sometimes trying to come up with that next article is really tough.
There are days when the creative juices just seem to dry up and even though you have set yourself the goal of writing an article a day, or one a week, or whatever your personal aim is, the inspiration, just won't come.
Don't worry, it happens to all of us, but there are some useful little tricks, you can use to get your brain going again.
Here are my Top Three Tips to kick-start your creativity.
Tip #1 - Look back at your old articles.
Assuming that you have one or two key subjects that you base your articles around, then you may think that you have exhausted the possibilities in your niche.
Think again.
Take a look back at your own article archive and you'll be inspired for two reasons.
One because you'll be reminded of how much you've achieved since you first decided to write your very first piece and two because I guarantee you'll find something you haven't done before.
Here are three questions to ask yourself when you look at your archive : 1 - What have I missed? Are there any angles I haven't covered, or more detailed explanations I could go into? 2 - Can I break a subject down further? If you have previously written a piece which gave three tips, could you write a further three articles which gave three tips on each of the first three? You might be surprised on how often this can be done.
I got down to the fourth level on one of my subjects.
3 - Can I cover the same subject in a different way?If you wrote a personal piece first time round, could you rework it with bullet points, this time, or turn it into a story piece.
Look in the article directories for advice on the basic formats you could use and make sure that you have covered each subject in each style.
Tip #2 - Look at the competition.
Do some web searches using the kind of keywords you normally work around and see what other people are doing.
You may find articles on aspects you haven't covered, or you may see a website that you think is so good, you could write a piece on what caught your eye.
Alternatively, if you see a site that you think is appalling, you could use that to inspire a "Three worst mistakes" article.
Offline sources are another area of inspiration.
Take a look at magazines that cover your niche; they constantly have to come up with new ways to look at the same subject and you can easily adapt what they produce.
Tip #3 - Look at your pitch level.
You may think you have done a subject to death, but who have your previous articles been aimed at?If you tend to write for beginners, why not go back over some of your key points with additional information for an intermediate or expert audience and vice-versa; if you tend to work at a high level, try toning down and writing for a novice.
Not only will it produce a new set of articles for you, it will also hone your writing skills.
So, the next time you are stuck for inspiration, try these three techniques and you will be tapping away again in no time.
