Dyslexia is a neurological disorder that varies in its degrees of severity.
Usually this disorder is detected by the teacher when she finds that the child has extreme difficult to read, write, and spell in its native language.
According to the studies in the field of dyslexia, it has been brought to light that it is of two types with various origins.
However, what interests us is the manner in which we could overcome this dysfunction.
A neurophysiologist and educator named Carla Hannaford points out that dyslexia is linked to stress and that the child most probably would have had the disorder when it was a fetus in its mother's womb.
Children with dyslexia respond successfully to love, laughter, a whole lot of positive expressions and stimulating movements.
Richly oxygenated blood helps the brain to function well and gently massaging the brain buttons below the collar bone with one hand while placing the other hand on the navel helps stimulate the neural network.
Cross crawl which is another stimulating movement that helps activate the both hemispheres of the brain, involves cross lateral walking by touching the left knee with the right elbow and vice versa.
When the right points in the body are stimulated not only does the connectivity between the brain and the body improve, but it also leads to healthier brain cells as well.
These little steps if regularly practiced could go a long way in overcoming not only dyslexia but ADD, depression and other related diseases as well.
Although this dysfunction mainly affects the brain it is imperative that we get the brain and the body to co-ordinate their activities in a child with dyslexia.
Natural sounds like the sound of the sea as well as music that has been written by Mozart, or Bach very definitely have a positive impact on the learning capacities of individuals.
These could also be used as tools to help improve the learning capacity of a dyslexic child.
With a lot of practice the dyslexic person could be taught to overcome their shortcomings.
But this tames time and cannot be accomplished over night.
Teachers and parents as well as others who deal with the child should understand their problem and encourage them and give them a lot of care and attention.
They should not be looked down upon but should be treated with respect and dignity.
