• Incorporated in 1815, Cumberland, Maryland, is located near the Maryland-Pennsylvania border approximately 74 miles west of Frederick, Maryland, and 85 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For tourists, Cumberland is home to a number of attractions, including Allegany Museum and the Tri-State Zoological Park. Visitors to the Cumberland area have a variety of options for accommodations, including public and private recreational vehicle (RV) parks.
  
  

Green Ridge State Forest

• Operated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service, Green Ridge State Forest is in Flintstone, Maryland, approximately 21 miles from Cumberland (around 28 minutes by automobile). The campground has 100 primitive recreational vehicle (RV) campsites that do not provide any type of electric, water or sewage connections. The park provides restrooms, showers and a public telephone. Firewood is sold on-site. Campers can freshwater fish or boat in the Potomac River, which flows through the park. Other recreational facilities available at the park are a 12-mile cycling trail and a 24-mile trail of hiking and backpacking. The park is open year-round, but many roads in the park become impassable in the winter due to the weather. Green Ridge State Forest has a maximum length of 14 days for all stays.

Hidden Springs Campground

• Hidden Springs Campground is a privately-owned campground in Flintstone, approximately 11 miles from Cumberland (around 22 minutes by automobile). The campground has 102 recreational vehicle campsites, 50 of which are available for short-term, overnight stays rather than seasonal rentals. Around half of the overnight sites offer full, sewage, water and electric hookups, while the remaining spots provide only water and electricity. Each space has its own fireplace and picnic table. On-site amenities include showers, restrooms, a sewage waste dump, public telephones and laundry facilities. An on-site store sells basic groceries, RV supplies, propane and firewood. A pond is located on the property for fishing. The campground has a pool that is available for guests' use for an added fee. Horseshoe pits, a gameroom, shuffleboard courts, a miniature golf course, a playground and facilities for basketball, volleyball and badminton are also located at the RV park. The campground operates from May through October.

Rocky Gap State Park

• Also located in Flintstone, public Rocky Gap State Park is 8 miles from Cumberland (around 13 minutes by automobile). The campground consists of 278 recreational vehicle campsites large enough to accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet in length. Thirty of the sites have electric hookups. Water and sewage hookups are not available at the park, but restrooms, showers and a sewage waste dump are available on the property. The campground also has public phones and a laundry facility. The park operates a store that sells groceries and firewood. Lake Habeeb is located on the property for fishing, swimming and boating. The park rents boats for campers who do not bring their own along. Rocky Gap State Park also features hiking trails. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources imposes a 14-day maximum length upon all stays at the park. The campground is open from May through mid-December.
