Proper care of your furniture can avoid it being damaged by sun exposure, scratches, discoloring and water spots and allows it to remain in your family for years to come.

1. Try toavoid direct sunlight on your furniture.
   Not only does it damage woodproducts but also fabric and paint.
   Wood stain is vulnerable to turnyellow, veneer will crack or lift, as will paint, and fabric is likely tofade when in direct sunlight.
   If there is no way to avoid placing yourfurniture in the path of the sun, remember to close shades, curtains orblinds to divert the possible effects.
   
2. Do notuse polish from spray cans on your furniture pieces.
   These types ofcleaning products contain silicone that are keep the spray nozzle fromclogging but can have detrimental effects on your wood's finish.
   
3. Woodon wood table slide systems can become to stiff to operate.
   To protectyour table from this, inspect the glide system often.
   A good way to do sois by opening your table to its fullest and examining the dovetail slideway.
   If there is no obvious damage, run paraffin wax (candle wax) on everysurface that rubs wood against wood.
   The most common slide system consistsof three parts and has approximately 10 surfaces to wax.
   Also, check the gear equalizer that can be found on some table extension sliders.
   Should your table not close completely or open properly, the cause is often that the gear has jumped a tooth.
   To reset it to its proper alignment, remove the screw from the middle of the star gear, open the table to its fullest and align the teeth equal distance from the screw hole.
   Then, reinstall the star gear.
   If this does not work, feel free to remove the gear altogether.
   This will not weaken the table but your table will no longer stay centered over the base.
   
4. Use WD40 on metal on metal slides to regain agility.
   
5. To keep tabletops looking brand new, use a table pad.
   This prevents moisture, scratches, dirt and other wear and tear.
   
6. Plastic tablecloths should not remain on your table for long periods of time in order to protect your table from condensation that will damage the wood's finish.

8. Check leg attachments on your tables and chairs from time to time to make certain that they are tight.

   Screws should remain tight and if they become stripped, try using a slightly larger screw.
   
9. Do not use abrasive cleaners or pads that can damage the finish on your unit.
   
10. Use either felt pads or nothing but a dab of wax on chair's feet to protect your floor.
    Make sure to clean the surface with rubbing alcohol first before attaching felt pad or applying wax to make sure it remains in place.
    Other types of padding are attached by nails, which will eventually scratch or rust on your floor when the padding wears out.
    
11. When you move your furniture, use blankets to prevent chipping and other damage.
    
12. Spray protection is best on soft goods.
    Ask your salesperson for spray protection that can be applied before delivery to your home, which also comes with an insurance policy against damage.
