With Easter on the horizon many people will often begin browsing foreign destinations for their next holiday. It is uncanny how many people will overlook what is on their very own doorstep, while the weather might not be too reliable there is certainly a lot to be seen in terms of history. In fact many tourists will often visit the UK for this exact reason. All through Scotland, England, Wales and Irelands there are landmark buildings and statues that provide an insight into a fascinating history.

Probably some of the most inspiring historic buildings in the UK are the castles, these can be found in a number of places, for instance Wales is home to the magnificent Bodelwyddan Castle, a great place of historical interest and a convenient destination for an Easter break. The history this house predates the 1400s, though the Williams family's association with it dates from about 1690. As it stands today the castle is seen has a creation of Sir John Hay Williams. Between 1830 and 1852 Williams employed architects Hansom Welch to refurbish and extend the house, whilst further developments resulted in the glorious estate wall and formal garden that we see today.

The Castle is also known for its paranormal activity; during one of its restoration periods it was noted in Sir John Williams' diary that human bones were found near one of the chimneys. Williams also mentions that he had the bones built back into the wall, meaning they are still there to this day. There is much speculation as to whether this is the reason why Bodelwyddan Castle is considered one of the most haunted buildings in Wales or whether it is something else in its history. There are a number of ghostly goings on that have been reported over the years, here are just a few:
- Visitors saying their hair has been pulled
- Ghostly figures drifting through corridors
- A mysterious lady in the Sculpture Gallery
There are a variety of paranormal events available for those of you who are brave enough, ghost walks from 6 to 8pm offer the opportunity to explore some of the castle's haunted rooms, and an insight into the previous inhabitants and other people's personal accounts of paranormal experiences. From 9pm till 3am there are also ghost hunts, these are lead by an in-house paranormal investigation team, and similar to the ghost walk explore the castles haunted rooms. Finally there is the option to partake in a Victorian Seance.
