Stop Father Time Getting His Hooks Into You Too Soon

When we are young - up until around age 25 when our body is still growing and developing it does not need specific exercise as it stays strong without it. But after that we basically have two options available to us. If we live a no-exercise lifestyle we begin the long slow process of becoming weaker or we can do intentional exercise to maintain our strength throughout adulthood.

When we choose to let it happen to us this process of the wasting of muscle begins without the necessary stimulus of vigorous exercise to trigger muscle growth and maintenance. "So what", you may say.

The loss of muscle tissue has a domino affect on the rest of the body accelerating degenerative changes and processes that we recognize as the aging process. Along with the muscles the bones that they are attached to become weaker as well. Joints that depend on the support and cushioning of strong muscles deteriorate so movement becomes difficult when stiffness and pain sets in.

The metabolism (the body's engine) slows which means we cannot use as much fuel (calories) so more gets stored as fat. This spoils our body shape and appearance along with setting the stage for many nasty diseases.

As muscles continue to weaken the desire to be active is further reduced and all the body's systems are on a downward spiral. They become less efficient and everything from blood sugar regulation, the performance of the heart and other organs right through to the transfer of oxygen and nutrients from the blood at cellular level is compromised.

The most threatening aspect is the weakening of the immune system as this is the body's amour and defense system against invaders from colds and flu right through to stray cancer cells. This is the one system you do not want to weaken but its fuel source (amino acids) comes from strong toned muscles where they are stored. If the muscles have been allowed to weaken there are simply not the building blocks available to produce strong and healthy immune system cells.

It has been proven over and over again that the elusive fountain of youth that we all wish for is actually found in maintaining or rebuilding muscular strength. Many components of the actual aging process can be slowed and even reversed with a program of proper strength training exercise performed just 2-3 times each week.

It is without question the single most important thing each of us can do to keep Father Time at bay, lengthen our life and above all live a higher quality of life no matter how old we are. It is important to understand that nothing less is going to give these benefits. Low intensity endurance activity is not going to cut it when it comes to anti-aging and muscle strengthening.

New research reveals that dwindling hormones from not enough physical activity are the missing piece of the puzzle in regards to accelerated and premature aging that so many people in our modern sedentary world experience. Your strength training program will protect you from much of this and is the key to lifetime youthfulness and optimal health.
