  • Montana's capital, Helena began as a mining town in the 1860s as part of the "Last Chance Gulch" area.
  • In 1864 a group of 22 outlaws calling themselves the Montana Vigilantes roamed the mining towns.
    They would hang up posters with skull and crossbones and the numbers 3-7-77.
    No one ever learned what the numbers meant, but Montana highway Patrol officer wear a patch with these numbers on it today.
  • Montana has temperatures ranging from 28 degrees F in January to 84.
