How to Install the String on a Homelite Edger
- 1). Place the Homelite trimmer on a sturdy work surface or on the ground. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the tip of the spark plug while working on the trimmer.
- 2). Hold the trimmer head with one hand and grasp the bottom of the line spool with the opposite hand. Turn the spool to the left to loosen and remove. Pull the spool straight out from the trimmer head and keep the spring inside the trimmer head with the spool as you pull it out.
- 3). Remove any old trimmer line from the spool and discard it properly. Cut two 9-foot lengths of .080 trimmer line from a filler spool with a pair of scissors.
- 4). Insert the end of one 9-foot length of line into the hole on the lower half of the spool. Wind the line onto the spool in the direction indicated by the arrow on the spool. Leave 6 inches of line extending from the spool and clip it into the notch on the side of the spool.
- 5). Insert the second 9-foot length of line into the hole in the upper half of the spool. Wind the line on in the direction indicated on the spool and secure the end in the opposite notch on the side of the spool.
- 6). Hold the spring against the spool and insert the line through the holes on the side of the trimmer head. Push the spool into place in the trimmer head and turn clockwise to connect the spool to the trimmer head.
- 7). Grasp both lines extending through the holes in the trimmer head and pull to prepare the line for use. Connect the spark plug wire back to the spark plug.
