All About Abdominal Migraines

When we hear the word migraine, we automatically think about headaches.
What many migraine sufferers will tell you is that the head is not the only part of the body that hurts in them whenever they have an attack.
Many individuals who regularly suffer from migraines also complain about being sensitive to sound (phonosensitivity), being sensitive to light (photosensitivity), being sensitive to scents, vomiting, cramping and gastric pain.
In some cases, the abdominal symptoms appear even without the typical headache that comes with migraine.
When this happens then the individual is said to be suffering from abdominal migraine.
The pain in the abdomen can vary from being mild to moderate.
Apart from the pain, people who suffer from abdominal migraine also feel tenderness, bloating, vomiting, spasms and loss of appetite.
Because abdominal pain is a very common occurrence, other conditions must be ruled out before a diagnosis of abdominal migraine can be done.
If there is a an absence of a gastric cause for the pain then it is most likely caused by this type of migraine.
If you suffer regularly from regular migraine then you should make it a point to let your doctor know whenever you are feeling abdominal pain in order to make a proper diagnosis of your condition.
Children are the ones that are commonly hit by abdominal migraines.
Kids who suffer from abdominal migraine usually grow up to have regular migraine.
Adults can also suffer from belly migraines but the condition is not common among older individuals.
Abdominal migraine is also more common among females than males.
The exact cause of these migraines is not known.
Experts though believe that it has something to do with serotonin deficiency.
Several studies about migraines have linked lack of serotonin to migraine.
Around 90% of serotonin in the body is produced in the gastric system.
Abdominal migraine is probably caused by cascading waves of nerve reaction in the brain which also causes regular migraines
