Obama"s Simmering Summer of Discontent

It never made any sense in the first place, the nomination and election of Barack Hussein Obama to the presidency of the United States, that is.
I mean, seriously, liberals, did you really believe Obama was the best man for the job, an over-achieving, inexperienced, unproven Chicago-style, politico as president? Or was it the fact that he was the Un-Bush, the fact he was a "clean" African American, as Joe Biden called him, the fact that half his bloodline was white, the fact that his only "executive experience" was organizing communities on the mean streets of the Windy City? Good grief! Even Biden or Hillary would have been a better choice! Whatever the reasons, I have to agree the scheme to elect this poseur worked.
Obviously.
Also obvious is that Obama was in deep over his head from the get-go, which only reinforced the rumors in some quarters that he was the product of fixers, a pre-programmed manchurian candidate not necessarily literally brainwashed but manipulated by unseen forces such as George Soros and his ilk.
In any event, Obama's election wasn't a popular-vote landslide, (53%-46%), winning against a pleasant, aging war hero who never really took the gloves off in the campaign.
Yet, the overseas reaction to his election was nothing short of phenomenal even as his domestic reception was temperate.
Bestriding the narrow world like a twenty first century Colossus, Obama was hailed as little short of the Second Coming, the Obamassiah, feted in world capitals from Berlin to Riyadh to Accra, worshiped by massive crowds in the streets, idolized by the international press.
Like a too-bright comet, like Icarus flying too near the sun, the deflation was bound to happen.
Obama's return to Earth didn't start on Earth Day, April 20, 2010 since there were rumblings the world over that this Colossus was less than colossal long before that fateful day when Deepwater Horizon exploded in murderous flames in the Gulf of Mexico.
What also exploded that day was what remained of the Myth of Obama.
His dithering and sputtering went on for 8 weeks as this president's Katrina unfolded and as he went into a modified Carteresque mode.
He still hasn't declared a state of national malaise but he doesn't have to.
That state of confusion, indecision, ineptness hasn't been declared but has been transparent since April and Obama's Oval Office speech to the nation only confirmed it.
It's said that we should keep our friends close, and keep our enemies closer.
Obama must have difficulty nowadays distinguishing which is which.
When friends such as Chris (Thrill-Up-My-Leg-in-Obama's-Presence) Matthews turn on you and calls the speech you intended to be a speech of reassurance to the American people that the Gulf eruption crisis was in control says, "I don't sense executive command," the former Colossus is crumbling.
When Germany's Der Spiegel derisively headlines the question, "Will Obama Be 'The Jimmy Carter of the 21st Century'?" http://tiny.

, Obama has to know the handwriting is on the wall for his administration.
This may be the summer of discontent for the president but that discontent originated with the American people and now has spread to Europe.
In all seriousness, even though I can't stand the man, I hope he recovers, somewhat, at least a semblance of that "executive command.
" I hope that because his job is too important, the nation and the world need a leader, and the Gulf Coast will never recover if Obama continues on his path of rudderless insipidity.
