How to Pawn a Guitar
- 1). Clean the guitar by spraying some guitar cleaner onto a microfiber cloth and rubbing the instrument to remove any dirt or grease marks. As is the case with anything you sell, having it in the best condition possible will help you get the most money for it.
- 2). Restring the guitar if you're missing a string or if the strings are old and out of tune. New strings will give your instrument a clean, fresh sound, which will help get more money for it.
- 3). Load any accessories into your guitar case to pawn with the guitar itself. These accessories can include extra strings, picks, a tuner, songbooks and even an amplifier and effect pedals.
- 4). Visit pawn shops in your city to see the price of similar guitars. Doing so will help you get a rough idea what your guitar is worth and how much you can command for it.
- 5). Take your guitar to a pawn shop, and explain that you'd like to pawn it. Tell the pawn broker how much money you want for the guitar, and negotiate if necessary. Explain the reasons you are asking for the financial amount, which could include the guitar's value, condition and how much you originally paid for it. If the pawn broker does not play guitar, play the guitar yourself to show how it sounds.
- 6). If necessary, visit multiple pawn shops to find one that comes closest to matching the price you are seeking.
