Precaution To Handle Wires In Loft Insulation Project

DIY home insulation projects must be taken over very meticulously. Homeowners must pay heed to great importance to safety for themselves and the area. One of the main concerns for fitting insulation to loft is handling wires around the area. Make sure the wires are kept above the insulation while installing without stretching them if those are not reaching comfortably. Wires are critical part of insulation project and they must be dealt by the help of electricians as they are proficient in handling re-routing wires or problematic wiring.

Water tanks and pipes in the loft area are also vital part of loft insulation installation. The insulation materials are fitted surrounding the pipes and tanks in order to protect pipes from losing heat and prevent from freezing. Each type of insulation material comes with specific set of instructions guided by manufacturers. One must comply with these particular set of instructions and recommendations for ensuring 100% effectiveness of insulation.

Installing Blanket loft insulation

Blanket insulation is sold in rolls in varying widths. Measure the distance of space between joists to buy these rolls in the nearest size to the distances. Blanket materials must not be stretch too far or else they may tear due to additional pressure given. Unroll the material and lay flat between the joist spaces. Consider applying added layer of blanket insulation across the joists.

Installing Loose fill insulation

You need about 200 litres of loose fill materials for covering every square meter of area in 200mm depth. Before applying loose fill loft insulation, the area should be cleaned and completely dust free. You should be assured that the depth of the joist can accommodate the insulation in recommended level of depth.

Sheet loft insulation material is fitted to the space between rafters instead of joists. These insulation materials are to be cut like blanket insulation or they are also available in pre-cut packages.
