Blue Light Therapy for Stretch Marks
- Blue light therapy is the use of a specific frequency of light (we see it as blue, hence the name). It can be used to treat a number of different skin problems, from acne to stretch marks. It was developed in California by two doctors who wanted another method to treat their patients and allow them to heal faster.
- In order to get ready for blue light therapy, you should be sure that your skin is clean. If this means showering or bathing before your session, so be it, and refrain from applying lotion or any sort of moisturizer to your skin. Your clothing should cover the area to be treated, since it may be sensitive to sunlight later. Bring something to help pass the time, such as an MP3 player, since the procedure itself lasts for an hour or so.
- After treatment, avoid direct sunlight for 24-48 hours. Some patients have reported having reactions after something as simple as stepping outside to refill the bird feeder. There may also be dryness and peeling of skin. To avoid this, moisturize your skin after treatment and, if you must go out of doors, wear a large-brimmed hat and sunglasses. Remember, your skin is sensitive to light at this point, so do the above regardless of the season or weather.
