How to Cut Philodendrons

    • 1). Cut back any yellowing stems to the ground. Remove any brown stems or stems that show signs of insect infestation or disease. Cut them back to soil level.

    • 2). Hold the main stem of the philodendron upright with one hand. Cut the stem all the way back to 3 inches above soil level. Discard the cut portion, compost it or root it for propagation.

    • 3). Repeat the cutting on each stem of the plant. Cut them back to 3 inches. The plant will begin producing new shoots within two weeks.
