How to Test Freezers
- 1). Plug in the freezer. Allow it to sit for several hours. Set an ice cube tray of water in the freezer and see if it freezes solidly and also how long it takes to freeze.
- 2). Check the settings on your freezer. Lower the temperature dial if the freezer does not seem cold enough.
- 3). Place a thermometer in the freezer to get an accurate temperature reading. Set it in the middle of the freezer and allow it to sit for an hour if the freezer was plugged in. Allow the freezer to cool overnight if the freezer was unplugged.
- 4). Inspect the thermometer for the necessary freezer temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees or as low as 0 degrees for a deep-freeze freezer.
- 1). Test the rubber seal of your freezer, since this is a big factor in sealing in the cold air keeping everything in your freezer at the proper temperature.
- 2). Clean the seal and the frame of the freezer using an all-purpose cleaner and a rag to remove any debris that might prevent the seal from completely sealing.
- 3). Open the door of your freezer and then close the door slipping a piece of paper in between the door and the frame.
- 4). Pull the paper out. Take note of whether the paper comes out easily or not at all. Replace the freezer seal if the paper easily comes out when you pull it , as that signifies an improper seal.
