How to Pick a Venue for an Eco-Friendly Party

    • 1). Make your mission clear. When you're checking out venues, talk to the owner or organizer and explain the importance of your party being eco-friendly. Determine whether they operate their venue with an earth-friendly attitude. If they're not receptive to your idea of an eco-friendly party, the venue might not be right for your event.

    • 2). Choose a venue that has recycling bins and facilities set up for their kitchen waste and trash so you can recycle all the cups, plates, cans and other trash from your party. If no facilities are in place, ask for permission to bring in temporary recycling containers so you can take party trash with you and recycle it later.

    • 3). Use as many recycled goods as possible for your eco-friendly party. Ask venue owners if they use cups, plates and supplies made from recycled materials, and if their foods are made with organic, earth friendly ingredients. A venue that already uses recycled goods is a great place for an eco-friendly party.

    • 4). Inspect the furniture and decorations at the venue to make sure nothing is made from endangered materials. Furniture or ornaments made from teak, mahogany or ivory are a sure sign the venue isn't eco-friendly; these materials come from endangered plants and animals and are often imported illegally.

    • 5). Find an all-inclusive venue with a rental fee that includes the use of on-site appliances and dishes. This will cut down on disposable trash, like paper plates and plastic utensils. You'll also save energy using their appliances instead of having to drive back and forth with your own.
