How to Make Fireworks With Royal Icing
- 1). Divide the royal icing equally into three separate bowls. Dip a toothpick into the red food coloring and place in one bowl, mixing the color into the icing. Repeat the process with the blue gel coloring, creating a bowl of red icing, a bowl of blue icing and a plain bowl.
- 2). Place a dot tip in the bottom of each pastry bag. Dot tips have a small round hole in the end and are suitable for writing in frosting. Fill each bag with a different color of royal icing and set to one side.
- 3). Turn a cookie sheet over with the baking side on the bottom and the flat bottom facing up. Line the tray with parchment paper, which keeps the royal icing in place and protects the cookie sheet.
- 4). Hold the white pastry bag flat against the cookie sheet and squeeze with your hand. Turn the bag in a circular motion, creating a round shape that serves as the base for your fireworks decoration. Move the pastry bag to the top of the round shape. Squeeze again and create an arched shape with the royal icing. Create a second arched shape on the opposite side.
- 5). Switch to the red royal icing and create an arch of icing directly below the white one on both sides. Move to the blue icing and create a third arch on each side. Repeat the process, making as many fireworks decorations as you need. Peel the fireworks decorations off the paper after 24 hours.
