History

• In the 17th century, King Charles II hired Captain Johannes Fripp to defend England's settlement at Beaufort against marauding French and Spanish sailors. Fripp performed so admirably, the King rewarded him with the island. Fripp settled there and gave the island its name.
  
  

Fun Facts

• During the 1600s, Fripp Island was a hotbed for pirates. Legend has it Captain Fripp even buried treasure somewhere on the island.
