Gallery Setup

• Set the masks up in a gallery setting. Reserve a room or a section of the gymnasium for one or two days. Secure the masks to the wall by hanging them on nails or attaching an adhesive pad. Leave as much space as possible between the pieces, and tape a piece of paper featuring the artist's name and the mask's title underneath each mask. Classes from the school can take turns viewing the masks throughout the duration of their display. This gives kids a real art world experience, as they have the chance to show off their work in a professional manner.
  
  

Rotation

• Putting the masks on a rotation schedule throughout the classrooms allows them to be appreciated individually. Throughout the course of one or two weeks, depending on how many masks exist, give one mask to each classroom in the school. Teachers can then set a portion of time aside each day to present the mask to the class and discuss it. Students can comment on what they like about it, and how it was made. The artists can be present at each viewing if they choose, in order to explain their work. This prevents students from feeling overwhelmed by the pieces, and helps them to appreciate the work put into the masks as separate works.
  
  

Hallway Display

• Hang the masks up on display in the hallways of the school. You can place them inside of a glass display case if available, or even disperse them throughout a few of the school's display areas. Put pieces of paper with the artist's name and the piece's details under each mask. They can also be set up on shelving units, or pinned to bulletin boards, depending on their weight. Students can appreciate the work as they walk by each day, or stand in line waiting for a class to begin.
  
  

Hanging Display

• A creative way of displaying African art masks is to hang them in irregular places around the room. Secure a clothesline from one end of the room to the other, and hang the masks from the line using clothespins. Or, a piece of string can be attached to the top of each mask using a strong tape, and they can be hung from the ceiling in a classroom or hallway. This integrates the artwork into the classroom environment in a fun and non-traditional manner.
