How to Put a Wooden Handle on a Knife
- 1). Trace the profile of the blade's tang onto your block of wood. The tang is the metal portion that gets put into the handle.
- 2). Cut the block lengthwise and trace the profile of the tang onto the other block.
- 3). Use the needle file to take wood out of the blocks where you traced the tang.
- 4). The process of fitting the tang to the wood is trial and error. Continue attempting to fit the tang into the blocks and filing until it fits well.
- 5). Drill holes through the blocks where the tang hole is.
- 6). Glue the blocks together. Push a dowel through the hole to keep the block joined to the handle.
- 7). Now use sand paper to bring the wooden block down to the size you'd like. You can also use the sand paper to shape the block.
