Naturists' Photography Techniques

    Location

    • Select a location where the shoot will not be disturbed. A private property is ideal. However, a public location where nudity is allowed also works. Do not shoot in a public location where nudity is prohibited without express written permission from local law enforcement. The location should be rich in natural beauty and free of modern influences (buildings, cars).

    Time of Day

    • The time of day is important when shooting outside and can change the whole look of the shoot. Late-afternoon or early-morning sun are the best, as the sun is not directly overhead but still provides plenty of light. The midday sun can be harsh, and the evening sun can be too dark. Use a reflector to increase light and eliminate shadows on the model.

    Activities

    • Many naturists enjoy taking part in activities outdoors. The activities can be the theme of the photo shoot. Hiking, swimming, picking flowers and sports like soccer, badminton and volleyball are popular naturist activities. Action shots of these activities can be challenging for the photographer but also rewarding. Use a fast shutter speed when capturing fast movements.

    Context

    • In naturist photography, the philosophy concerns itself with the context. The natural world is without cover, and so too should the human be. The context for naturist photography should be people enjoying the natural world in their natural state. Naturist photography is never sexually explicit or graphic. Many naturist photos have been exhibited in famous museums as part of art photography exhibits.
