Four Things That Are Likely To Hasten Your Date With The Dentist
We have to start this discussion by taking cognizance of the fact that all of us are advised to see our dentists regularly, for dental checkups.
Now when we talk of 'four things that are likely to hasten your date with the dentist' in this context, we are not referring to things that can hasten those regular dental checkup appointments that are healthy, and actually compulsory for anyone who is keen on maintaining optimal dental health.
Rather, we are referring to what may be termed as 'adverse' appointments with the dentist: appointments for what usually turn out to be uncomfortable procedures (that being an encouraging term for painful procedures).
Of course, nobody loves such appointments, where unpleasant things like drilling teeth and extraction of teeth are done.
Yet, you are likely to be unwittingly hastening such an appointment by doing one of these four things: 1.
Not brushing your teeth properly: we are at an age where most people know the importance of brushing their teeth regularly.
The problem facing us, however, is as to whether we brush our teeth the proper way.
Read any book on the topic, and you come to realize that proper brushing of teeth is quite a highly technical affair.
You also come to realize that without an understand of that proper teeth brushing technique, chances are that you will end up experiencing pretty much the same problems as someone who doesn't brush their teeth at all.
Incidentally, one element of proper teeth brushing many of us keep on forgetting is that of changing the toothbrushes regularly.
At a certain point, the toothbrush loses its efficacy.
2.
Not brushing your teeth regularly: although we have asserted that we are living at an age when most people have come to learn of the need to brush their teeth regularly, that is by no means to say that everyone is doing so.
There are those of us who still feel, in our moments of laziness, as if teeth brushing amounts to too much work.
Those also constitute the majority of the folks to be found looking dismal, on the waiting benches outside dentist's clinics, as they await for their teeth plucking appointments.
Generally, if you take to brushing your teeth properly and regularly, you will have substantially reduced your chances of finding yourself seated on such dismal benches.
3.
Eating too sugary foods: when you eat these foods, too many of them, too regularly, what you are inadvertently doing is feeding the bacteria that will inevitably cause you a lot of grief.
The problem is that as you eat these foods, some of them remain the mouth, and prove to be fodder for the teeth-ruining bacteria.
4.
Postponing the regular dental checkup appointments: it is during these regular dental checkups that signs to the effect that you are not brushing your teeth regularly or properly, or that you are eating too many sugary foods too much can be identified.
Caught early, the only thing you would have to do is take corrective measures to prevent a total dental disaster.
But as you postpone dental checkups, you are giving the effects of the said dental illnesses time to worsen.
