How to Get Creosote off Fireplace Glass
- 1). Spread a drop cloth on the floor in front of your fireplace before beginning to work. This will keep the floor clean and make finishing the cleaning process simpler. Wear old clothes.
- 2). Use a sifter or strainer to clean 2 to 4 cups of ashes so that no debris, wood pieces or other items remain in the ash. Throw away any debris from the collected ash.
- 3). Fill a bucket with your 2 to 4 cups of sifted ashes. Add hot water to the bucket until the mixture has the consistency of glue or paste. Fill a second bucket with clean hot water.
- 4). Dip a cleaning rag or sponge into the mixture and coat the creosote deposits on your fireplace glass with the ash and water.
- 5). Wipe the creosote off of your fireplace glass with clean hot water and a clean sponge. Dry the doors and fireplace floor with towels.
- 6). Repeat the process if any creosote is still on the glass.
