How to Install a Top Mount Stainless Steel Sink
- 1). Place the sink upside-down on the counter top where you are going to install it. Ensure that the sink is even with the edge of the counter top by measuring the distance from the front of the sink on each end and adjusting its position until the measurements match. Use a piece of chalk to trace all the way around the sink.
- 2). Measure the sink lip from the underside. Take the measurement from the edge of the lip to where the flat part of the lip begins to curve. Subtract 1/4 inch from this measurement and use the resulting number to make marks that distance inside the outline of the sink. Use a straight edge to connect these marks, making a smaller sink outline inside of the first.
- 3). Drill holes just inside the corners of the smaller outline with a drill with a hole saw. When the holes are complete, insert the jigsaw blade into one and use the jigsaw to cut along the smaller outline. Repeat for the remaining three sides using the other three holes.
- 4). Flip the sink right side up and lower into the hole to ensure fit. Make any adjustments needed to the hole by trimming away small pieces of the counter top at a time until the sink is snug and the lip is sitting flush with the counter top all the way around.
- 5). Remove the sink and flip upside down. Place a small line of silicone sealant all the way around the underside of the sink lip on the edge. Flip the sink right side up and lower into the hole. Measure the distance from the edge of the counter top to the sink lip on both ends and adjust until it is even on both ends.
- 6). Tighten the mounting clips on the underside of your sink, if the sink has them attached. Stainless steel sinks are relatively light, so they should have the clips. Turn the heads of the clips outward so that they are over the underside of the counter top, and use a screwdriver to tighten the clip to the underside until it is firm.
- 7). Install the drains and faucets for the sink according to the instructions that came with the hardware.
- 8). Fill the sink with water overnight. The weight of the full sink will hold it down while the silicone sealant dries and helps form a watertight seal.
