Natural Wrinkles, Naturally Gone
Natural wrinkle remedies sound so very enticing.
Don't be naive to all that is said before forging forward with your wallet out.
Despite Bette Midler's suggestion that gravity is a woman's worst enemy, it does seem as if the skin's first loss of elasticity does more damage to her psyche.
So at the first sign of aging on the forehead, around the eyes, nose and mouth, what does she do? Nothing less than begin accepting the claims of various preparations to be the elixir of youth.
Often her susceptibility to the message of rejuvenation is such that she becomes ready to pay through the nose for the benefits of expensively packaged treatments.
And therein lies the danger.
Because not all of these skincare products are as safe as the claims suggest.
Botox-type remedies, for example, are often synthetic.
Without the clinical evidence, the so-called double-blind, placebo-controlled testing to support all the ingredients, women should know that they are taking a chance by using them.
Ingredients like benzophenone and oxybenzone which are known to be carcinogenic; paraben preservatives, phthalates, BHT and others which are said not to penetrate the skin, but in fact can and often do.
These synthetics are used quite often even though they shouldn't be and mainstream cosmetic manufacturers know that they shouldn't be.
Quite often, the claim that ingredients are naturally occurring is believed because it says so on the jar or tube.
Further investigation can reveal that the jar or tube isn't telling the whole truth.
The naturals have either been denatured or they are synthetic too and have come out of the lab rather than the country.
So what is a woman to do? She could decide to save some money on cosmetics and grow old gracefully without help of skincare cosmetics.
Or she could look for a manufacturer who is prepared to say not only what the ingredients are or where they come from and how they are treated before being incorporated.
There are still a few old-fashioned companies of this kind, and they're well worth seeking out and being supported.
After all, a woman's skin is her body's biggest organ and is worth looking after.
At least she should avoid creams and ointments that contain sunblock, fragrances or synthetic preservatives.
That way she can at least start taking care of herself more effectively.
