Countertops on the other hand refer to the horizontal work surface in kitchens and work rooms that are usually supported by cabinets.
These are usually constructed to slightly overhang the base of the cabinet and cut away to accommodate sinks, cook tops, ranges and cutting boards among many others.
When buying countertops, you have to consider the material, the design and the affordability.

  • wood - durable and very nice to look at, can be made using maple, oak and other kinds of wood but can warp, scorch and allow bacterial growth
  • natural stone - granite or marble, very durable but quite expensive and needs a lot of care to sustain its quality
