How to Re-stuff Fixed Sofa Cushions
- 1). Use the seam ripper to open the seam along the front and sides of each of your cushions. Go slowly so that you only separate the seam and don't rip the fabric of the sofa. Remove the foam and any batting from inside of each cushion.
- 2). Use a sharp knife to cut the new foam to fit the size of the old foam pieces.
- 3). Place the foam you removed from the sofa on the floor. Place your pre-cut plywood piece on top of the foam. Place the foam you cut on top of the plywood. Take the cotton batting and wrap it around both pieces of foam with the piece of plywood in the center. Do this for each cushion being repaired.
- 4). Place each batting-covered bundle back into the cushion.
- 5). Thread your upholstery needle with enough of your upholstery thread to stitch the sides and front of your cushion.
- 6). Stitch the side of the cushion using small, closely-spaced stitches, starting at one end of the broken seam and following through to the other end. When you have stitched the last stitch, tie a knot in your thread as close to the stitch as you can, and trim the excess thread with your scissors.
