    • 1). Unplug the power cord from the outlet. Unscrew the two halves of the plug to expose the inner wiring.

    • 2). Write down which wire is attached to the thin-bladed prong on the plug. Mark this with the fine-tip marker to note the hot wire.

    • 3). Unscrew the two halves of the power switch. Pull apart the two halves.

    • 4). Separate the two conductors from one another where you want the power switch. Press the wires into the switch, around the center post.

    • 5). Snip 1/4 inch from the hot wire at the apex of the bend made around the center post. Lay one section of wire to the inside of the center post. Set the other side to the outside.

    • 6). Press the upper half of the switch onto the lower half. Apply enough force to cause the small brass terminals inside the switch to penetrate the insulation of the hot lead.

    • 7). Screw the two halves of the switch and the plug back together.

    • 8). Plug in the chord and test the switch.
