A Space of Their Own

If you are a parent of small children, you know how active they can be.
A good way to help give them a space where they can release their energy and creativity is to create a playroom in your basement.
Most homes have a large basement area that in large part goes unused because people believe it would be too difficult and costly to fix it up.
There are some simple steps you can take to turn your dull gray basement into a more appealing place for children to play in.
The first step is to add color to the area.
This can be done by using any number of new paints available today that are made especially for use on concrete.
These paints can come as a glossy or flat paint that is an epoxy so it also works to seal out the moisture a basement is susceptible to having.
You can paint both the walls and the floor to bring new life into this area.
You also want to add some warmth to the cold floor surface so selecting a large area rug will help.
You will find many colorful styles available in the line of accent rugs, which will help enhance the new play room.
In addition to the basic rectangular rug shapes you will find some round rugs as well.
These can come in traditional short fiber lengths or as the longer shag styles.
The round shag rug is available in some bright colors such as vibrant red and lime green, which can create a bold color scheme for a child's play area.
To furnish this room you can choose several inexpensive plastic cabinets and storage boxes as well as child sized furniture.
These items come in tough durable plastic and are also colored in bold vibrant shades.
