How to Attach a Wire Brush Accessory to a Drill
- 1). Loosen the drill's chuck, using the keyless hand-grip rings or the chuck key, as applicable.
- 2). Insert the shaft of the wire brush accessory into the chuck, and hold it at the proper depth while you tighten the chuck over the shaft. If the shaft is faceted (instead of cylindrical), make sure the points on the chuck make contact with the flats of the facets, not the edges between facets. Tighten the chuck securely.
- 3). Run the drill, slowly at first, then with increasing speed, to make sure the brush accessory is centered in the chuck (chucks are self-centering with cylindrical shafts, but faceted shafts are easy to install off center if you're not paying attention). A wobbly rotation indicates the shaft is off center. If this happens, re-chuck the brush and test it again before using it on your work.
