When your child wants a high-energy birthday party, check out the nearest laser tag establishment. Boys and girls will enjoy strapping on laser vests and blasting each other as they run and hide in the giant maze of obstacles. Most laser tag venues feature private party rooms for food and drink---all you need to bring is the cake. Create a cake that will impress everyone at the party with its laser party theme.

    Vest and Gun

    • Trim a sheet cake into the shape of the laser tag vest by taking off just enough at the sides and on top. Because laser tag vests vary, try to decorate your cake to look like the party venue's version. For example, frost the cake in blue and add red and yellow details using a cake-frosting bag and tips. Colored candies can add even more detail as buttons, lights and straps. Trim a small, round cake into the shape of the laser gun, and decorate it with dark frosting. Add details using colored frosting.

    Camouflage Cake

    • Give a nod to the need to stay hidden and camouflaged during a laser tag battle with a camo cake. Cover a two-layer round cake in olive green fondant (a moldable sheet of sugar). Cut out shapes of green, brown and beige fondant, then place the shapes on the cake in a pattern that resembles camo. Use a cake-decorating bag and tip to write the birthday boy or girl's name and age in red.

    Alien Cake

    • If the laser tag venue has an interplanetary theme, an alien cake fits well. Frost a heart-shaped cake with green frosting, then use a cake-decorating bag and tip to add red almond-shaped eyes, small black nostrils and a small black mouth. Or use candy, like licorice ropes, for the face details. Make cupcakes to go along with the alien cake, and decorate the frosted tops with planets, moons and stars.

    Bullseye Cupcakes

    • Give every party guest a target they can hit with bullseye cupcakes. Frost each cupcake with white buttercream frosting. Roll out gumdrop candy (red and white) to create different-sized circles for the bullseye, or use round cookie cutters of different sizes to create the red and white circles. Layer the targets---red, then white, then a red center---and place one on each cupcake. You can make a bullseye cake using the same directions on a 9-inch round cake.
