    • 1). Shut off all electrical power to the pump. Unscrew the connectors between the pump and the pool's plumbing. Move the pump away from the plumbing and set the pump system down on level ground for easier access to the components.

    • 2). Loosen the four large bolts on the outer edge of the wet end of the pump, using a socket wrench. Most Hayward pumps use a 9/16-inch bolt. Pull back on the wet end of the pump system to separate the wet end and the motor.

    • 3). Reach into the side that houses the impeller and pull the diffuser off the shaft. Gently pry the back casing off the motor with a screwdriver. Hold the back end of the shaft through the exposed back of the motor with a wrench or other gripping tool. Twist the impeller to unscrew it and pull to free it from the shaft.

    • 4). Remove the seal assembly from inside the old impeller. Insert the seal into the new impeller. Slide the replacement impeller onto the shaft. Replace the diffuser and reattach the wet end of the pump to the motor. Snap the motor's back casing into place. Reconnect the pump to the pool plumbing.
