The Easy Way to Quit Smoking - Does it Really Exist?
When a person is trying to quit smoking there are several reasons why they can end up falling off the wagon.
Some of these reasons are:
I personally quit for over 20 years before I decided to put down cigarettes for good.
What finally motivated me? It was developing a double pneumonia and not being able to breathe.
This scared me to the point where I realized right then and there I did NOT want to eventually die of emphysema as it has to be a horrible death.
And even beyond that, I most certainly did not want my son to have to see me suffer.
That was what it took for me.
Not everyone finds the motivation in the same things and we are all different.
Don't let temptation get the best of you There have been plenty of times where I am out drinking and all I can think about is how good a cigarette would be.
There are also times when I am so stressed out, or after a good meal, or even after some really good sex where I could just KILL for a cigarette.
I do know however that if I was to smoke one, there is a very good chance that I would smoke again.
What would I tell people? Oh, my coffee was just so good one morning that I just HAD to have a cigarette with it? Or, my job was making me crazy and so I went outside for a bit and decided to have a cigarette to calm my nerves? What all of these would boil down to are some lame excuses.
I have been smoke free for almost 6 years now.
It was so much harder in the beginning to not fall into one of these traps, but once you overcome them the first time, it gets easier and easier.
There are still times to this day where I think that a cigarette would just be what the Dr.
ordered.
Then I think again.
Help is available for those who are willing to try When you first quit smoking it is important to know what tools and resources are available to you to help you win this battle.
There are so many new treatments; both natural and medicinal that can help that people did not have available that long ago.
The bottom line is that it ISN'T EASY to quit smoking.
If it was easy we would not need all of the medications and nicotine patches and gums to help us quit.
More importantly, I personally feel that just as it is difficult to quit smoking, it is also NOT EASY to stay smoke free.
Some of these reasons are:
- Overconfidence
- Lack of Planning
- Lack of Support
- Excuses
