Pressure Washing Basics
I'm going to explain my experiences with cleaning using a pressure washer, but keep in mind much of what you will learn will come from using the pressure washer on your own.
Compare it to learning how to ride a bicycle.
I can't tell you how to ride the bicycle, it requires practice taking action and doing it on your own.
The first thing you need to be familiar with is the pressure washer spray tips.
The pressure washer spray tips can be identified by the four or five digit number stamped onto the nozzle.
The number indicates the spray angle and orifice size.
The first two digits of the nozzle number represent the spray angle in degrees.
The last digits of the nozzle number indicate the size of the orifice.
These numbers do not indicate the gallons per minute (GPM), flow rate or inches in diameter of the orifice.
Make sure you use caution when using these tips.
The spray pressure coming out of these nozzles with a 4000 PSI machine can do serious damage if pointed directly at someone.
Also when you connect the nozzle to the end of your trigger gun that you make sure it is locked firmly in place.
The nozzle can shoot off the end and get lost or hit somebody if it is not locked in place.
Also you can lose the small rubber seals at the end of the spray gun if the nozzle comes off.
It's a good idea to get extra rubber seals for your trigger gun because without them your pressure washer will be useless.
I highly recommend you start gaining experience with using your pressure washer by simply pressure washing the outside of your home or calling up a friend and ask if you can try out your new pressure washer.
Experiment with using the different spray nozzles on different materials lying around your house.
Take note of the different degree spray patterns with all 4 spray nozzles and notice how the effectiveness improves or begins to damage the surface at varying distances.
See how the water pressure cleans common surfaces you will find at jobs such as concrete, wood or vinyl siding.
I don't recommend doing any pressure washing jobs until you are comfortable with the machine and have a general idea of how the cleaning process works.
