After you get engaged and set a wedding date, you will start to compile a checklist of things you need to do before the big day.
One of the first things you will need to do is get yourself registered.
As soon as word spreads that you're engaged, and definitely before your first pre-wedding event, guests will often will ask where you're registered.
Its best to have this worked out before hand.
Its better to choose multiple stores.
If you offer your guests more shopping options, including one national retailer, it's easier for your extensive list of friends and relatives to live near by one of these stores.
The average couple registers at three stores.
Try to balance your price points.
While it's nice to register for extravagant items, you should keep your guests in mind and pick some less expensive items as well.
Check back periodically to see which items are moving.
If more inexpensive items are purchased, you should add more lower priced items to your list.
Spread the news tactfully.
Use word of mouth to let your guests know where you've registered.
It is acceptable to have registry information included on your bridal shower invitations, as this party will be hosted by someone other than you.
You can choose items other than traditional china.
Today's couples are making choices and signing up their registry at stores for things that reflect their lifestyle.
These types of stores may include travel agencies, home centers, or sporting goods stores.
Almost all retailers have a registry consultant.
Ask to work with that person, who will help you add items to your list which will accommodate your needs.
