How to Hook a LAN to Windows 7 & Vista
- 1). Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to an available port on the LAN's switch or router.
- 2). Connect the opposite end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the computer. This port is most commonly found on the rear of the computer's case.
- 3). Click the networking tray icon. Alternately, open the networking center from the control panel.
- 4). Click the "Home Group" link in the right portion of the networking dialog box.
- 5). Click the "Join Home Group" link. This link appears in the center portion of a new window. A password may be required to connect to the local network. At this point Windows identifies the LAN and all devices attached to it. All public folders, printers and network drives will become available to the user.
