The reasons for hair loss is many; hormonal, disease related or mechanical damage.
Some types of hair loss are temporary and reversible but some can be permanent! Among all causes the one reason which has the highest impact on hair health is hormones since it is also the reason for their growth.
The culprit hormone is testosterone which interacts with the natural enzyme 5 alpha reductase to give a byproduct DHT or dihydrotestosterone which is the cause of 95% of hair loss cases.
It was important when you were a teen for regulating hair growth and other puberty related factors but after the age of 19 you do not have much need of it and it becomes a nuisance if it finds and binds with androgen receptors in the hair follicle.
Men have more receptors than women; perhaps the reason why there are more baldness cases in men.
The receptors are in direct contact with the blood capillaries of the skin so when DHT binds with them it will not allow nutrients to enter the hair follicle.
Over time with lack of nutrition the hair will become dull thin wisps and eventually the follicles die resulting in baldness.
So the obvious conclusion drawn here is that we should block DHT itself.
How do we block DHT? The best way is to use natural ingredient based hair product which are specifically made for blocking this menace.
A lot of supplements are also available which use natural herbs but it is not advisable to ingest any non prescription product that will interfere with hormones! Saw Palmetto extract is a potent herbal extract which has proved its effectiveness in inhibiting binding of receptors to DHT in several studies.
It is a dwarf-palm tree; a native of southeastern North America, particularly Florida.
The extract used is from its fresh and dry ripe berries containing Sternols, Flavonoids, Water-soluble polysaccharides and fatty oil.
Its benefits have not been known recently but since the time when the berries were a staple food item of the aborigines in this area.
