How to Install a Saxophone Mouth Piece

    • 1). Remove your cork grease, reed, mouthpiece and saxophone from the case. Before opening the case, you'll want to make sure it is in the upright position so it doesn't fall out.

    • 2). Stick the reed in your mouth, with the end part sticking out. This helps the reed to get wet, which allows for easier playing.

    • 3). Take your cork grease and rub a small amount (no bigger than a dime) on the cork on the neckpiece of your instrument. This will help the mouthpiece to slide on easily.

    • 4). Remove the reed from your mouth and place it on the designated area, flat-side down. It should fit right over the hole.

    • 5). Take your ligature (this is the metal or plastic ring that holds on the reed), place it over your mouthpiece and screw it on, with the screws facing the same side that your reed is on.

    • 6). Gently slide the mouthpiece onto the neckpiece using a twisting motion, if needed. Slide it on as far as it can go, making sure the reed faces downward, toward the floor. You've now successfully installed your saxophone mouthpiece.
