GM's Chevrolet pickups were manufactured as early as the 1930 and since then there has been continuous development of these vehicles. The manufacturer introduced an upper trim level for the Chevrolet C/K known as the Silverado for its pickup trucks. This Silverado was the truck for the year 1987 on the Chevy production line. This truck came to succeed the 1986 Chevy pickup truck although there were very minor alterations or modifications to the 1987 Silverado truck. Most of the specifications were maintained as from the previous models. The differences are mainly in the equipment and engine specifications. - The Chevy Silverado has got a 4.3-litre V-8 engine that is capable of producing a power of 200 horsepower. This can be a two-wheel drive or given an option of the four-wheel drive. The truck is a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The wheelbase lengths of the truck are 108 and 118 inches. The payload ratings are 1500 lbs. The engine block is made of cast iron with aluminium cast cylinder heads. It is a dual-overhead camshaft. The vehicle uses a power steering system which allows steering tilt and the engine allows cruise control while the braking system uses power brakes. The fuel injection system used for this Silverado is the throttle-body fuel injection. The engine uses petrol with some option models that use diesel.
- The interior of the vehicle is carpeted on the floors and wooden wall surfaces for the side doors and the dashboard which also has a tachometer, gauge clusters and also a clock. The seats are made of leather and can be reclined unlike in most pickup vehicles. The audio system is an AM/FM with compact disc player. The rear window is a sliding type. It also has a climate control system air conditioner.
- On the exterior, the vehicle is normally fitted with a chrome bumper. It also has a dual exhaust system. The vehicle has dual sports mirrors with the windshield wipers being interval wipers. The tires used by this car are radial with alloy rims. The suspension of this vehicle uses the Bilstein gas pressure shock absorbers that are fitted at all the four wheels. The price of this truck ranges around $10,000, as of 2010, for the modified versions. This vehicle is subject to modern modification to improve its performance.
