Removing Fabric Paint While It Is Wet

• 1). Apply rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth. You can also use a wet wipe that contains alcohol if you don't have any rubbing alcohol on hand.
  
  
• 2). Rub the alcohol-soaked cloth on an inconspicuous part of the rug to ensure that the alcohol doesn't change the color of the rug fibers. If it does have an effect on the rug's color, allow the paint to dry completely and follow the directions for dry paint.
  
  
• 3). Blot the fabric paint stain with the rubbing alcohol to remove as much of the wet paint as possible. Once most of the paint has been removed, rub the stain vigorously with the rubbing alcohol to break the bond between the fabric paint and the rug.
  
  

Removing Dry Fabric Paint

• 1). Use your fingers to peel away as much of the dry fabric paint as possible from the rug.
  
  
• 2). Pry stubborn pieces of the dry fabric paint off with a dull knife, being careful not to damage the carpet fibers.
  
  
• 3). Apply acetone to a hidden part of the rug to ensure that it doesn't change the rug's color. If it doesn't damage the carpet fibers, rub the acetone into the dry fabric paint until the area is well saturated. Work the acetone into the rug's fibers to loosen the paint and remove it from the rug completely.
