    • 1). Click on the volume icon on your "System Tray" located at the bottom of your desktop window and adjust the volume level to its maximum.

    • 2). Click on "Start," and then "Control Panel." Look at the upper left side of the Control Panel window to know if you are in the "Classic" or "Category" view. If you are in the Classic view, double click on "Sounds and Audio Devices." If you are in the "Category" view, click on the "Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices" icon first, and then select "Sounds and Audio Devices."

    • 3). Click on the tick box beside "Mute" if the box has a check mark in it. If it doesn't, leave it as is. Under "Device Volume," adjust the slider so that it is close to "High."

    • 4). Connect the cable of your speakers or headset into the line out sound port of your computer. Make sure that the sound cable is properly connected to the sound port when connecting your laptop to an external sound system. The sound port of a computer is usually colored green, while the microphone port is colored pink.

    • 5). Plug the power cable of the speakers into the power outlet. Make sure that the volume controller of your laptop is not set too high, as extreme volume may damage your laptop's built-in speakers. Play an audio or video file and see if the speakers are emitting any sounds. Adjust the volume controller according to your desired level.
