Bachelor Apartment Decorating Tips
- Choose items with clean lines and lasting style. A shabby chic sofa just won't cut it--instead opt for a leather sofa and rich wood coffee table and some high-tech looking lamps. Because you're a dude, choose things that will still look OK after you've spilled beer on them a few times. Think dark colors and easy maintenance. And by all means, skip the throw pillows. Throw pillows are for girls. And go ahead, let your entertainment center be the focus of the room. Just make sure it looks nice, with spaces for all your gadgets and all the cords hidden.
- Stainless steel appliances are the way to go here. Accent them with a nice dark granite countertop and don't let them get too cluttered. Leave room for the biggest, baddest espresso machine you can find--an essential in any bachelor kitchen. A nice bar set up is good too, with some well-chosen bottles of wine and a martini shaker, for those times when a beer just won't do.
- In a stereotypical bachelor pad, you'd walk in and find an unmade futon (dirty sheets, natch), some metal crates with records and nudie magazines, and a poster of Jessica Alba on the wall. Come on, show a little class. Buy yourself a real bed, with a headboard in darker wood tones, get some nice sheets and wash them often. Then add a couple of nightstands, with drawers (to hide your magazines), and a nice lamp. Finish it off with some framed art prints on the wall, and any woman who comes back to your crib will be a happy woman indeed.
